When we say traditional we mean the shepherds crook and blackthorn walking sticks that have been around for years and years. At one time there wasn't a sheep farmer in the UK that had a shepherds crook, some even having 4 or 5 for different occasions. One for everyday use and one for going out in good wear. We get asked many times what the Crook handle is unused for and the answer is to hold a lamb or sheep by the neck or the hind leg. The crook walking sticks that have a turn up on the end where use many years ago for holding lamps or lanterns.
Blackthorn is another traditional type of walking sticks, many used them years ago for self-defence, people then made the blackthorn longer so they then could be used as walking sticks and self defence if needed. There is long history in Ireland and the UK with the blackthorn shillelagh.
Moving on to the more new walking sticks in the UK there is vast range to choose from, but the most popular has to be the folding walking sticks, some of our folding sticks now have the best ever folding designs, in a few secondsd a 5 section folding stick can be converted into a full walking sticks. This is done by elastic threads between the joints ot sections, when the stick is fully adjusted to unfold it you simpley pull the secton apart and fold the walking sticks into the folding shape. There is no screw tide fittings or designs just a simple pull to unfold the walking sticks.
